What is Naturopathic Medicine? continued...

The therapeutic approaches used integrate the latest scientific research with traditional healing wisdom. Naturopathic treatments can complement conventional medicine or be used effectively on their own. The result is a safe, effective, and individualized approach which can help a wide variety of health concerns. Some of the more common conditions treated include: women’s health issues (menopausal symptoms, PMS and menstrual disorders, infertility, and breast health), chronic headaches, digestive disorders, asthma, chronic allergies, arthritis, smoking cessation, heart disease, and ADD/ADHD.

Principles of Naturopathic Medicine

The following principles govern the practice of naturopathic medicine:

Do no harm. Provide effective health care using gentle, non-invasive therapies.

Healing Power of Nature. Respect and promote the body's ability for self-healing.

Treat the cause. Identify and remove the causes of illness, rather than suppressing symptoms.

Doctor as teacher. Educate patients, inspire rational hope, and encourage self-responsibility for healthcare.

Treat the whole person. The treatment plan is individualized. Any ailment is looked at in the context of the patient’s history, environment, mental-emotional state, and their body as an interconnected system.

Prevention is the best medicine. Make every effort to avert potential disease through changes in lifestyle and diet.
